#7 Men’s Basketball Falls To Connecticut College

The seventh-ranked Middlebury men's basketball team fell 60-49 at Connecticut College on Friday in the regular-season finale for the Panthers. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Trailing 4-3 early in the opening half, the Camels rattled off an 11-1 run spanning nearly six minutes capped on a basket from David Murray for a 14-5 lead with 12:10 left.
  • Middlebury responded with a quick 9-0 spurt over the next 1:37 to knot the score (14-14). Highlighting the run was a three-point play that included a dunk from Alex Sobel.
  • The teams traded small leads over the remainder of the half, before a bucket by Caelin Peters gave Connecticut College a 26-22 edge at the break.
  • A free throw by Murray just over a minute into the second stanza gave the Camels a 29-22 advantage.
  • The Panthers put together a 15-5 run covering 7:14 of action, fueled by seven points from Nash Goldman, for their largest lead of the contest (37-31).
  • Connecticut College recorded six of the next seven points, pulling to within one on a layup by Elias Espinosa with 9:22 remaining.
  • Following a three-pointer by Noah Osher on the ensuing possession, the Camels reeled off the decisive 19-5 run for a 56-46 lead with 48 seconds left.
  • Connecticut College converted on four of its six free throws in the final minute to earn the 60-49 victory.
NOTES
  • Sobel finished with a game-best 17 rebounds and added three blocked shots to move the forward up on a pair of single-season program lists. He has accumulated 273 boards, propelling him into the fifth spot, while his 89 blocks put him in a fourth-place tie.
  • His 780 rebounds are the fourth-highest total in the career record books.
 The Panthers will wait to learn their NESCAC Championship fate until later this weekend when the final regular-season contests conclude.
