Men’s Basketball Drops 72-58 Decision To University of Rochester

The Middlebury men's basketball team opened the UAA Challenge on Saturday, dropping a 72-58 decision to the University of Rochester. The Panthers are hosting a pod of six teams this weekend as part of the tournament, while Brandeis is hosting three other squads. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Yellowjackets jumped out to a quick 4-0 edge, and slowly increased their lead to double digits (22-12) on a three-pointer from Tomiwa Adetosoye with 5:52 remaining in the half.
  • Middlebury answered with 14 unanswered points to close out the stanza and take a 26-22 advantage. Sam Stevens opened and closed the span with a pair of baskets. 
  • The Panthers maintained a small lead in the opening minutes of the second half, but a 4-0 spurt by Rochester knotted the contest at 41 points apiece midway through the frame.
  • A shot from beyond the arc by Kuba Cwalina sparked a 5-1 burst by Middlebury, taking a 46-42 edge at the 8:22 mark. 
  • The Yellowjackets answered with a 14-4 run over the ensuing 4:20 of action, putting the visitors back in front 57-50. 
  • With just under three minutes remaining, the Panthers cut the deficit to five (59-54) on a jumper from Cwalina, but that was as close as they would get.
  • Rochester closed out the game with a 13-4 run and was four-for-four from the foul line to secure the 72-58 triumph.
NOTES
  • Cwalina posted a career-high 10 points during the contest.
  • The teams played for just the fourth time this evening.
Middlebury takes on the University of Chicago on Sunday at 5:00 p.m., while the Yellowjackets play in the first game of the day against Hamilton at 1:00 p.m.
