The Middlebury women's basketball team continued its season-opening four-game homestand on Tuesday evening, cruising by Vermont State University (VTSU) Lyndon 68-34.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panthers got out to a quick start, taking a 10-2 advantage on a pair of charity tosses by Kale Tornwini midway through the opening quarter.
- The Hornets chipped away at the deficit, cutting the lead to three (12-9) with just under two minutes to go on a shot from beyond the arc by Sage Smith.
- Middlebury closed out the stanza with a 7-0 burst for a 19-9 advantage after 10 minutes.
- VTSU-Lyndon sliced the Panther lead back down to single digits (22-13) with a jumper by Smith at the 7:15 mark.
- Middlebury responded with a 12-2 run sparked by a layup from Calie Messina, closing out the half with a solid 34-15 lead.
- The Panthers opened the third quarter with a 10-1 run, highlighted by four points from Alexa Mustafaj, for the 44-16 advantage at the 5:39 mark.
- Middlebury continued pulling away, making it 56-24 with a layup from Mustafaj at the end of the stanza.
- The Hornets had back-to-back three-pointers from Smith and Christina McKivergan midway through the final frame to close the gap to 61-31.
- The Panthers were not challenged over the final minutes, easing to the 68-34 victory.

- For the second-straight game, Tornwini tallied a career-high in points (13) and boards (nine).
- Fresh off the bench in the final frame, Keeley Baglio tallied five points for Middlebury, including a three-pointer, in her collegiate debut.
- The programs met for the eighth time with the Panthers winning each of the previous seven, with seven of those coming by over 20-point margins.
The squad remains home this weekend, hosting the Middlebury Tip-Off Classic. The Panthers take on Framingham State at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, before entertaining Springfield at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
