Panthers & Mules Finish In Scoreless Tie

The Middlebury women's soccer team outshot Colby 10-4, but was unable to come up with the golden goal as the teams ended in a 0-0 tie.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The first scoring chance of the contest came with just under 10 minutes elapsed. Middlebury's Roshann Purcell took a free kick from outside the left side of the 18-yard box, dropping the ball into the goal area. Fanny Lodge got her head on it, but the attempt sailed just wide of the right post.
  • With 12:58 expired, Colby's Sophie DiGrande rifled a left-footed shot from 30 yards out, but Panther goalie Carolyn Kelley dove to her left to snare the opportunity.
  • Middlebury looked to get on the board at the 22:30 mark when Carolyn Days sent a ball over the Mule defensive back line. Colby goalie Mk Marshall and Ella Gagnon sprinted one-on-one toward the ball, but Marshall won the foot battle, thwarting any attempt from Gagnon.
  • The best opportunity of the half came with 33:35 elapsed. Chloe Swindle sent the ball from the middle of the field to Mia Feldman on the right side. Feldman took one step and launched a shot that looked destined for the upper-left 90, but Marshall dove to her right and just got a hand on the ball to deny the chance.
  • Colby had corner kicks on both sides of the field in the final two minutes, but a strong Panther defense did not allow a shot.
  • Middlebury had a pair of great opportunities to score during the second half. With 61:19 expired, Gigi Day fired a shot from the doorstep, but it hit the crossbar and was cleared away by the defense.
  • Just five minutes later, Lodge rocketed a shot from outside the 18, but her chance pinged off the woodwork and Marshall pounced on the loose ball before a rebound attempt could be made.
NOTES
  • The teams met for the 36th time today in a series where the Panthers own a 27-6-3 mark against the Mules.

Middlebury has a quick turnaround, traveling to Babson on Sunday for a noon start.
