HIGHLIGHTS
- Less than a minute into the opening half, the Panthers looked to strike early when Gagnon dribbled the ball down the right side and sent a beautiful cross into the box intended for Abby Ward on the left post. Due to the wet conditions, the ball took an odd skip and sailed just wide left before Ward could get a foot on it.
- The Jumbos had a good chance to score with 2:59 expired, but Thalia Greenberg's bid from 30 yards out was met by Middlebury goalie Carolyn Kelley who dove to her right to thwart the opportunity.
- Tufts looked to get on the scoreboard in the 26th minute, but Kelley saved a header by Caroline Kelly on the left post.
- The Panthers opened the scoring on a failed clearing attempt by the Jumbos. Gigi Day took advantage of the miscue and collected the loose ball, firing a low shot from the left side of the box into the lower-right corner to make it 1-0 with 11:45 left before the half.
- Tufts had a golden chance with 3:43 remaining, but Waverly Sumner's shot from point-blank range was saved on the goal line by Middlebury's Roshann Purcell to preserve the Panther lead heading into the intermission.
- The Jumbos knotted the contest (1-1) with 31:41 remaining in the second half. Elsi Aires lifted a one-touch shot into the upper-right corner following a nifty cross from Erin Duncan.
- Tufts nearly took the lead three minutes later on a knuckling shot by Greenberg, but her bid rang off the right post and bounced away harmlessly.
- The visitors had three quality opportunities over the final 20 minutes, with the best coming in the final 60 seconds. Aries' shot was blocked by a Panther defender on the edge of the box before a long-distance bid from Greenberg was saved by Kelley for the final 1-1 tally.
NOTES
- The goal was the fourth of the season for Day.
- The programs played for the 33rd meeting with the Panthers holding a 15-9-9 edge.
- Each of the last 11 matches with the Jumbos has been either a draw or a one-goal decision, as Middlebury is 7-0-4 during that span with back-to-back 1-1 draws.
The Panthers conclude the regular season on Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. contest at 13th-ranked Williams.
