The Middlebury football team stormed past Bates 48-7 during another rainy Saturday contest. This marked the third game this season that the Panthers limited their opponents to one touchdown or less.
Tomás Kenary had 3.5 sacks during the win, setting a school record with 22 in his career while moving into second place on the single-season list with nine.
HIGHLIGHTS
- After forcing a quick three-and-out, Middlebury capitalized on its first possession of the game. Cole Kennon found Mike Ahonen for a 56-yard touchdown pass and Zach Levy split the uprights for the early 7-0 edge.
- Levy converted a 47-yard field goal on the Panthers' second drive of the game to make it 10-0.
- With 16 seconds left in the opening stanza, Kennon connected with Patrick Jamin for an 11-yard scoring strike. Levy tallied the PAT, putting Middlebury up 17-0 after one quarter of action.
- Kenary turned Bates over on downs with a sack to start the second session. The Panthers took advantage of their field position at the Bobcats' 22-yard line, as Cody Weitzman bolted into the endzone for a nine-yard rushing touchdown. Levy converted the extra point, extending the Middlebury advantage to 24-0.
- Later in the quarter, Kennon found Donovan Wood for a 29-yard touchdown reception, and Levy was dialed in through the sticks to make the score 31-0.
- Bates made its way down the field with 3:07 remaining in the half, eventually scoring when Colin Bosselait hooked up with Steven Guetrette for a nine-yard scoring strike. Marcos Raiz converted the extra point to cut the deficit to 31-7 at the halftime break.
- Levy booted a 24-yard field goal through the uprights to give the Panthers a 34-7 lead early in the third quarter.
- With just under four minutes remaining in the stanza, Kennon slung an 83-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Smith and Levy converted the PAT to extend the Middlebury advantage to 41-7.
- In the final frame, Brian Moran connected with Jimmy Cosolito on a pair of short passes, before finding Michael Yamin for a 58-yard scoring strike. Levy remained perfect through the uprights for the 48-7 triumph.

- In addition to his 3.5 sacks for a loss of 21 yards, Kenary had six tackles with 4.5 for a loss of 22 yards and forced a fumble.
- Levy tied the school record with the most kicking points scored in a single game with 12. This was the second double-digit contest for him this season, as he was a perfect 6-for-6 in PATs and 2-for-2 in field goals. His 47-yard boot was the furthest made in a NESCAC game this season.
- Kennon had 353 yards in the air, including four touchdowns. He is now tied for fifth on Middlebury's all-time list with 38 career touchdowns. His 83-yard snipe was the longest in any conference game this year.
- Kennon and Moran combined for a total of 426 passing yards to top the NESCAC rankings through six contests, with the five touchdowns tying for first.
- In his first career start, Smith led the Panthers with 39 rushing yards while scoring his first touchdown.
- Middlebury totaled 523 total offensive yards, ranking second-most in a NESCAC game this year, while the 48 points tie for second.
- Tony Wang had a career-high nine kickoffs, totaling a whopping 533 yards.
- The programs met for the 66th time in a series where the Panthers hold a 49-14-3 advantage dating back to 1948.
Middlebury hits the road for two-straight weekends, traveling to Colby and Hamilton before returning home for Senior Day on Saturday, November 11.
