Football Topples Hamilton 41-7 In Old Rocking Chair Classic

The Middlebury football team toppled Hamilton 41-7 in the annual Old Rocking Chair Classic, bringing the chair back to Vermont for the 28th-straight year. The Panthers have won five-consecutive contests, improving to 6-1 overall.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury worked its way down the field quickly on the opening possession. Cole Kennon connected with Patrick Jamin for a 29-yard reception, before tossing a 22-yard pass to Mike Ahonen. Later in the drive, Carter Stockwell rushed his way two yards into the endzone, and Zach Levy split the uprights for the 7-0 advantage.
  • Levy extended the Panther advantage to 10-0, converting a 24-yard field goal with 16 seconds left in the stanza.
  • Middlebury carried its momentum into the second quarter, with Kennon throwing an eight-yard scoring strike to Ahonen and Levy tallying the PAT to make it 17-0 with just under 11 minutes remaining.
  • The Continentals responded on their ensuing possession, taking over at their own 25-yard line and marching all the way down the field. Quarterback Luke Kurzum had a two-yard toss to Chase White in the endzone, and Ben Waterman split the uprights to cut the deficit down to 10 points (17-7).
  • With three seconds left on the second quarter clock, Levy converted a 41-yard field goal to extend the Panther advantage to 20-7 at the break.
  • Taking over at its own 26-yard line with 8:59 left in the third stanza, Middlebury made its way down the gridiron. Kennon and Donovan Wood started the drive with a 36-yard haul, before connecting for a 19-yard touchdown pass on the other end. Levy's PAT was good to put the Panthers up 27-7.
  • With 2:39 remaining in the third, Middlebury struck again. Kennon launched a 17-yard touchdown pass to Stockwell, and Levy tallied the extra point to make it 34-7 heading into the final stanza.
  • Walker Coleman made his first appearance in the game count, coming off the bench and scoring an 11-yard rushing touchdown, before Levy split the uprights for the 41-7 final score.
NOTES
  • This marked the second time the Panthers eclipsed the 40-point mark this season, and is the fourth game limiting opponents to one touchdown or less.
  • With 79 yards receiving today, Wood moves into third place on Middlebury's list with 2,121 in his career.
  • Today's contest was Jamin's third of the year with over 100 yards receiving (121) and fifth overall.
  • Finn Muldoon led the squad with eight tackles, marking the sixth-straight game the Panther has tallied eight or more stops.
