Volleyball Eases To Straight-Set Victory Over Bates

The Middlebury volleyball team eased to a 3-0 straight-set victory over Bates on Saturday afternoon. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Leading 7-4 in the opening set, the Panthers won seven of the next 10 points to jump into a 14-7 advantage, capped by a kill from Ava Tuccio.
  • Middlebury continued to cruise in the first frame, capturing a 25-13 victory on a kill by Katie Kraczkowsky to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Panthers continued their momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 6-1 advantage on a kill by Lauren Baxter.
  • The Bobcats responded with a 5-0 run of their own, leveling the set at 6-6 following a kill by Bella Lomat.
  • Later in the stanza with Middlebury holding a 14-9 edge, the Panthers won seven of the next nine rallies, highlighted by a kill from Stephanie Mayer, to secure a 21-11 lead. 
  • Middlebury tallied four of the next five points to claim a 25-12 win in the middle frame.
  • Bates rushed into a 4-1 lead in the third set, but the Panthers responded with a 5-0 spurt, capped by a service ace from Kraczkowsky to take a 6-4 edge. 
  • Knotted at 14-14, the Bobcats posted four of the ensuing five points, highlighted by a kill from Katie Kortekaas, to move into a 17-15 lead. 
  • Trailing 19-18, Middlebury rattled off seven of the next eight points. Molly Harrison tallied back-to-back kills to claim the final set by a 25-20 scoreline.
NOTES
  • The programs met for the 36th time with the Panthers holding a 24-12 advantage. Middlebury has now won the last seven meetings and claimed 3-0 victories in the last three contests.
  • Gabbie O'Toole concluded the match with 28 assists, and had recorded 20 or more assists in 66 of her 67 career matches.
The Panthers will be back in action next Friday when they face Springfield at 7:00 p.m. in the New England Challenge hosted by Williams.
