Volleyball Extends Winning Streak To Three With 3-1 Victory Over Union

The Middlebury volleyball team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 3-1 victory over Union on Wednesday. The Panthers improve to 11-4 overall and have lost just one of the last 10 matches.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury opened the first set on a 6-1 run, with Ava Tuccio registering two kills during that span. 
  • Leading 11-10 later in the frame, the Panthers rattled off six-unanswered points, capped by a service ace from Gabbie O'Toole to storm into a 17-10 lead.
  • Middlebury did not look back, claiming eight of the following 13 points to win the opening set 25-15.
  • The Panthers held an 8-6 edge in the second stanza before going on a 7-0 spurt, highlighted by back-to-back aces from Campbell Keller, to ease to a 15-6 advantage.
  • With a 16-9 lead, Middlebury won nine of the next 11 points to secure the 25-11 triumph. Highlighting the output was Katie Kraczkowsky who tallied three kills during the run. 
  • Knotted at 18-18 in a back-and-forth third set, Union won three of the next five rallies to pull ahead 21-20. 
  • The Panthers continued to battle and leveled the match at 23-23, but two-straight points, including a service ace from Maddie McCarron, gave the Chargers a 25-23 win in the third stanza.
  • The hosts wasted no time in the fourth frame, jumping out to a 9-2 advantage on a kill by Lexi Linafelter.
  • Leading 14-7, Middlebury won 11 of the next 12 points and cruised to a 25-8 fourth-set victory and 3-1 win.  
NOTES
  • Kraczkowsky recorded four service aces during tonight's triumph, giving her 100 in her career.
  • O'Toole set a four-set career high registering 44 assists in the win. She also moved into fourth place in the Middlebury record books with 2,124 career helpers.
  • Tuccio registered 13 kills during the victory for a career high, while Molly Harrison earned her sixth double-double of the year (13 kills, 11 digs). 
  • The Panthers improve to 6-1 in Pepin Gymnasium this season. 
  • The programs played for the 24th time with Middlebury owning a 16-8 advantage.
The Panthers travel to Waterville, Maine to take on Colby in a NESCAC bout on Friday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m.
