Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Pair of Late Goals Lifts Trinity Past Middlebury 2-1

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team led 1-0 early, but a pair of third-period goals lifted Trinity past the Panthers 2-1.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury looked to get on the board with 5:52 elapsed in the opening stanza, but Andrej Hromic's shot from the slot was blocked by a Bantam blueliner.
  • Trinity had a great chance to score near the midway point of the period. Brandon Cimino sent a long pass intended for Paul Selleck, but Middlebury netminder Adam Wisco came out and poked the puck away.
  • The Panther's best opportunity to score came with 2:08 left on the clock after Michael Fairfax collected the puck from behind the Bantam goal. Zachary Whitehead one-timed the feed from Fairfax, but his close-range effort was thwarted by Trinity goalie Devon Bobak.
  • With 6:22 gone in the middle frame, Wyatt Pastor nearly scored a shorthanded marker. Pastor stole the puck from a Bantam and skated one-on-one toward Bobak, but Bobak denied the shot.
  • The Panthers broke through at the 10:55 mark during a five-on-three power play. Antoine Belisle sent a cross-ice pass to Nolan Moore, who tucked his slap shot inside the left pipe for the 1-0 edge.
  • With just under five minutes left in the period, Trinity almost tallied the equalizer during a power play. Gerard Marretta redirected an initial shot by Kyle Tomaso, but Wisco denied the chance as Middlebury killed off the penalty.
  • The Bantams knotted the contest 1-1 at the midway point of the final frame. Rick Boysen dropped the puck back to Jake Smith at the top of the left faceoff circle. Smith sent a cross-crease pass to Andrew Troy in the low slot whose one-timer found nylon.
  • The Bantams tallied the golden goal just over two minutes later. An initial bid by Devan Tongue was saved by Wisco, but Tongue was there to slip the rebound into the goal.
  • Middlebury had four quality shots in the final minute of play, but the Trinity defense held strong to secure the 2-1 win.
