Men’s Hockey Falls to Wesleyan

The Middlebury men's hockey team leveled the score at 2-2 during the second period, but fell to Wesleyan by a score of 6-2 on Friday night.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Cardinals opened the scoring after just 2:52 of play. Following a face off, D.J. Dixon wristed a shot that snuck into the left side of the net to make it 1-0.
  • Wesleyan doubled its advantage less than four minutes later. Emmet Powell received a centering pass from Henry Carlson and fired it into the upper right corner for the 2-0 lead.
  • Middlebury nearly cut the deficit in half with 7:03 elapsed. Chris Garbe eluded a defenseman and flicked a backhanded effort that beat the goaltender but ringed off the left pipe.
  • The Panthers came out firing to start the second period, rattling off seven shots on goal in just three minutes of action.
  • After 6:27, Ryan Pineault put Middlebury on the board. Michael Fairfax skated through center ice before finding Pineault on the right side. Pineault drove in and back-handed a low shot past goalie Erik Voloshin to make it 2-1.
  • Just 1:20 later, the Panthers found the equalizer. Bret Pastor moved into the offensive zone and passed the puck to Paddy Bogart, who danced around the goalie to even the score at 2-2.
  • Wesleyan regained the lead for good with 10:51 remaining in the period. Daniel Lurie drove a shot on goal and managed to reach his own rebound before setting up Wiggle Kerbrat who poked the puck into the net from close range.
  • With 9:30 to go in the second frame, the Cardinals restored their two goal edge. Powell fired a pass from the right circle to Owen Sweet who was on the doorstep to tap the puck home, making the score 4-2.
  • Wesleyan opened the final stanza by tacking on two more goals to increase its advantage to 6-2.
  • The Panthers ended the period strongly, taking 13 of the last 14 shots in the game, including a Sam Amato effort that pinged the crossbar with six minutes to go.
 NOTES

  • The Panthers will look to rebound when they take on Trinity on Saturday afternoon. Middlebury and Trinity will meet for the 47th time with the Bantams holding a slight 22-20-4 edge.
