Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Hockey Skates To 1-1 Draw With Connecticut College

Both teams scored in the opening period, but neither was able to break the deadlock, as the #6 Middlebury women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 draw with Connecticut College. The teams complete the weekend series on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. puck drop.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury nearly scored with 2:52 gone in the opening stanza, but Britt Nawrocki's bid from point-blank range was turned away by goalie Abby Wieczorek.
  • The Panthers got on the board with their second shot of the game. Kylie Quinlan carried the puck over the blue line and blasted a shot through traffic and into the net for the 1-0 edge with 5:19 expired.
  • The Camels had back-to-back attempts during the seventh minute. Middlebury netminder Sophia Merageas saved the first attempt on the left post and slid to the right pipe to deny the quick second shot.
  • Connecticut College knotted the contest 1-1 at the 14:52 mark when Caroline O'Keefe wrapped around the goal and slipped the puck into the net.
  • With 4:35 elapsed in the middle frame, Jenna Letterie and Avery McInerny skated toward the goal against one defender. McInerny centered a pass to Letterie, but Letterie's one-timer from the doorstep was steered away by Wieczorek.
  • Connecticut College had a chance to take the lead with 16:59 gone in the session after killing off a penalty. As the Camels returned to even strength they found themselves in a three-on-two situation, but a strong Panther defense forced the shot by Morgan Brownstein just wide.
  • With 9:50 left in regulation, Letterie skated around two blueliners, but her shot from the slot was denied by Wieczorek.
  • Both teams had quality bids during the final 2:01 of the period. The first came at the 17:59 mark during a power play for Connecticut College, but Merageas made a sprawling save to thwart an attempt by Casey Godfrey.
  • Just 32 seconds later, Raia Schluter picked the pocket of a Camel defender and fired a short-handed attempt on goal, but Wieczorek snared the chance with a glove save.
  • The Panthers had a pair of golden goal opportunities during the extra session. The first came just 30 seconds in when Sabrina Kim slid a cross-ice pass to Schluter, but Schluter's shot was thwarted. The duo tried the same combination late in the overtime stanza, but Wieczorek charged out to deny the chance.
  • The Camels had the final attempt of the extra frame, but Merageas turned away Melanie Conca's attempt from the left point as the buzzer sounded.
NOTES
  • Quinlan's goal was the first of the season.
  • The teams met for the 50th time tonight, as Middlebury remains unbeaten (7-0-2)  in the last nine meetings.
