Panthers Compete At Middlebury Winter Classic

Emily Rubio 3,440 points in the pentathlon was good for a new school record.
The Middlebury women's track and field team took part in its second event of the winter, hosting the Middlebury Winter Classic. Cady Barns and Emily Rubio each recorded new school records during the event. Barns set a new bar in the triple jump while Rubio claimed the Middlebury record in the pentathlon.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kate Kenny was the top finisher in the one-mile run, stopping the clock at 5:10.33
  • In the 400 meters, the Panthers swept the top-four places. Eva Kaiden won the event with a time of 1:00.67, while Mary Elliot, Annabel Cloney and Cate Kreutzen were next to finish.
  • Barns continued her dominance in the long jump and triple jump, winning both events with totals of 5.44m and 11.55m, respectively. Her triple jump score was good for  a school record, eclipsing her mark of 11.36m set last winter.
  • Ciara Dale also scored a victory in the 500m, crossing the finish line in 1:18.23.
  • The 4x200m relay quartet of Kaiden, Melissa White, Katie Bruno and Cloney placed second with a time of 1:46.09.
  • Zoe Wang cleared the bar at 3.35m in the pole vault to claim the top spot in the event.
  • Mary Scott Robinson (13.77m) and Jaxon Palmer (12.77m) finished first and second in the weight throw, while Robinson took second in shot put (11.19m). 
  • In the 500m, Dale crossed the line first (1:18.77), while Kreutzen was right behind (1:24.80) in second. 
  • Rubio claimed the pentathlon crown with her school-record total of 3,440 points, eclipsing the mark of 3,408 set back in 2018. She finished first in all five events.
  • The Panthers ended the day with a victory in the 4x400m. The team of Lily Bulczynski, Elliot, Dale and Michelle Louie won the event, clocking in at 4:07.15,  more than five seconds faster than second place.
NOTES
  • Middlebury will be in action again on January 29, when it travels to The Track at New Balance in Boston for the New England Small College Invite.
