Middlebury Clipped By Williams In Overtime 56-50

The Middlebury women's basketball team was edged in overtime by Williams 56-50 in a back-and-forth contest on Saturday afternoon.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Ephs took an early 10-4 lead after 3:45 in the opening stanza following two-straight three-pointers from Kate Keenan.
  • Trailing 12-5, Augusta Dixon knocked down a jumper from close range to bring Middlebury within five heading into the second quarter.
  • At the 8:36 mark, the Panthers went on a 6-0 run, capped by a Dixon layup, to cut Williams down to just two (16-14).
  • With just over a minute remaining, the Ephs took their largest lead of the game, as Keenan hit a jump shot to increase the advantage to 31-23. 
  • Gabby Stuart responded by sinking a layup as time expired to cut the deficit to six (31-25) heading into the locker room.
  • Middlebury began the second half on a 5-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Alexa Mustafaj, to trim the Williams lead to one (31-30).
  • Trailing 37-32 with 4:00 left in the quarter, Dixon tallied four-unanswered points to bring the Panthers within one (37-36).
  • Williams opened the fourth quarter by scoring four straight. Middlebury answered with a 9-0 run over the next 3:18, highlighted by seven points from Stuart, to take a 45-41 lead. 
  • Middlebury led 48-45 with under 30 seconds to go, but Maddy Mandyck sank a shot from beyond the arc WITH 26 seconds left to send the game to overtime.
  • In the extra period, defense was key for both teams, with neither squad scoring for the first 2:17. 
  • With the game tied at 50-50, Arianna Gerig recorded an old-fashioned three-point play to put the Ephs ahead by three. From there, the visitors hit three more free throws to close out the game 56-50.
NOTES
  • Stuart registered her second double-double of the season, scoring a career-high 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds during the contest.
