Men’s Hockey Drops Away Contest at Colby

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team dropped a road contest 5-0 against Colby on Friday night.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After just 1:26 of action, Jin Lee looked to get the Panthers on the scoreboard, but his shot from the slot was thwarted by the left pad of Andy Beran.
  • The Mules took a 1-0 edge just over three minutes into the contest. Following a scramble in front of the net, Will Molson collected the puck and centered a pass to Ryan Doolin who was on hand to tap the puck in.
  • Just 37 seconds later, Colby doubled its advantage. Clay Korpi fired a long pass to John McElaney who drove into the attacking zone and slipped the puck into the lower left corner of the goal.
  • Middlebury nearly cut the deficit to one with 14:16 remaining. John Burdett flicked a backhanded effort off the left post from just inside the right circle. Wyatt Pastor followed up the bid and looked to have rounded the goalie, but Beran made a spectacular diving save to deny the chance.
  • At the 14:00 mark in the middle stanza, Cole Joslin broke away from the defense and skated into the offensive zone, but his wrist shot was pushed aside by the Mules netminder.
  • With 2:58 remaining, Jake McDonald looked to cash in on a close-range chance, but Jake Horoho slid across his crease to block the bid.
  • The Mules took a 3-0 lead at the 18:05 mark. Alex Bourhas slid a centering pass to Carter Breitenfeldt in front of the net who flipped the shot into the right corner.
  • With 3:45 elapsed in the final period, Horoho kept Middlebury within three with a sprawling double save.
  • Colby increased its lead to 4-0 at the 6:39 mark in the third period. McElaney skated down the left side of the ice and wristed a low shot into the far right corner.
  • Andrew Malatesta almost got the Panthers on the board with 12:32 left in the contest. The forward received a pass in the right circle and blasted a shot toward the top right corner, but the shoulder of Beran deflected it away.
  • The Mules scored a fifth and final tally with 5:50 remaining. Bourhas drove through the center of the attacking zone and received a pass before finishing into the upper left netting to make the final score 5-0.
NOTES
  • Middlebury will continue its road trip tomorrow when it clashes with Bowdoin tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
