The fifth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team completed three days of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships this weekend.
Charlotte McCann highlighted the tournament, claiming the Singles B Draw Title, while doubles duo
Sahana Raman and
Gena Huang advanced to the quarterfinal round of the main draw.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Anna Lardner, Lulu Wu, Raman and Claudia Miller each won their respective first match in the singles A draw round of 64.
- Nathalie van der Reis fell in the round of 64, but bounced back and won both matches in the consolation bracket.
- Lardner won a three-set thriller in the round of 32, while Miller eased to a straight sets victory. Both Panthers saw their runs thwarted in the round of 16.
- Nina Farhat advanced to the quarterfinal round of the singles B draw, falling in a tiebreaker.
- McCann claimed the singles B draw title, dropping just two games over the first three rounds. McCann faced off against Tufts' Michelle Shub in the title tilt, edging her opponent 7-5 in the first set, before cruising 6-3 to earn the crown.
- Raman and Huang teamed up in doubles action, earning a bye in the first round. The tandem topped its opponents 8-6 and 8-5, respectively, before falling in the quarterfinals.
NOTES
- Raman's victory in the singles round of 64 was the 30th in her career. She now owns an impressive mark of 30-6.
