Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#17 Middlebury Tops Castleton 1-0

The 17th-ranked Middlebury women's soccer team topped Castleton 1-0, extending its winning streak against the Spartans to 15-straight victories.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Castleton had its best chance of the entire contest with just 1:24 expired, but Rylee Pepin's blast from 20 yards out hit the crossbar.
  • The Panthers had an excellent opportunity to get on the scoreboard during the 26th minute. Kiley Bertos and Sophia Cole had a give-and-go after a corner kick, before Cole's attempt from the top of the 18 hit the woodwork.
  • Middlebury nearly scored at the 38:44 mark. Lucy Patton chipped the ball to Fanny Lodge, who pivoted and volleyed the ball on goal, but Spartan goalie Alex Benfatti punched the ball while diving through the air to thwart the chance.
  • The Panthers broke through less than a minute later when Olivia O'Reilly settled a loose ball before tucking her shot under the crossbar for the 1-0 edge.
  • Castleton looked to tie the game at the 55:32 mark, but Alexis Billings' penalty kick hit the left pipe and ricocheted out of bounds.
  • Middlebury had an excellent chance to double its lead at the 77:08 mark when Elise Morris headed a free kick, but her attempt sailed just high of the upper-right 90.
NOTES
  • O'Reilly's goal was her first of the season, becoming the 10th Panther to score this fall.
  • Livia Davidson earned her first career victory in her debut appearance in goal for Middlebury.
