Â
HIGHLIGHTS
- Middlebury opened the scoring with 5:42 expired when Bavier rocketed a shot from 25 yards out into the top left corner to give the Panthers an early 1-0 edge.
- The Continentals responded at the 13:48 mark. Rose MCCullough sent the ball over the top of the defense, forcing Middlebury goalie Lucy VanNewkirk charging off her line. Hyla Mosher got to the ball first, slipping the shot just past VanNewkirk to knot the game at 1-1.
- The Panthers took a 2-1 lead at the 27:23 mark. Bavier sent a cross from the right side of the field to Gagnon at the top of the box. Gagnon slid a through ball between a pair of defenders to Sophia Cole who was just inside the 18 on the left side, before Cole tucked the ball inside the right panel of the goal.
- Middlebury wasted little time out of the halftime break, scoring with just 1:03 elapsed in the second stanza. Joely Virzi dribbled down the right side of the pitch before firing a shot on net that Hamilton goalie Nieve Tonna just got a piece of. The ball ricocheted out of Tonna's hands, and Kiley Bertos was there to tap it into the goal for the 3-1 advantage.
- The Continentals threatened to cut the deficit to one at the 56:11 mark after a free kick, but Mosher's one-time bid was thwarted by VanNewkirk.
- The Panthers looked to tack on another tally at the 72:10 mark, but Elise Morris' header attempt on a corner kick hit the crossbar.
- Just 30 seconds later, Middlebury broke through again. Bavier dribbled through midfield before sending a cross to Gagnon who one-timed the feed just inside the six-yard box for the 4-1 final.Â
