Volleyball Sweeps Colby-Sawyer In Home Opener

The Middlebury volleyball team swept Colby-Sawyer 3-0 in its home opener. The Panthers have now won 12-straight contests in Pepin Gymnasium, dating back to 2019. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Middlebury jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set, sparked by a kill from Ava Tuccio.
  • The Panthers maintained control in the middle part of the frame, highlighted by a pair of kills from both Lexi Linafelter and Laney Sullivan.
  • Middlebury closed out the set with a decisive 10-2 run to earn a 25-10 victory.
  • The Chargers set the tone in the middle stanza, taking an 11-4 early lead.
  • Trailing 16-10, the Panthers responded with nine-straight points behind impressive serving by Kelly Ferrero
  • Colby-Sawyer answered with a 5-0 spurt, capped by a service ace from Katie Mollberg for the 21-19 edge, but Middlebury scored six unanswered points to close out the set 25-21.
  • The Panthers dominated the final session, taking a 9-1 lead and never looked back. Middlebury held the Chargers to just five points en route to the 25-5 triumph to secure the sweep. 

NOTES

  • Gabbie O'Toole recorded 29 assists during the victory, continuing her streak of at least 20 assists per match. 
  • The two teams met for the 30th time in a series where the Panthers hold a 25-5 record.
