Cassie Kearney collected a pair of top-five finishes on Saturday.
The 10th-ranked Middlebury women's track and field team concluded a stellar NCAA Championships, finishing 17th out of 69 scoring teams with 17 points. The three-day meet was contested at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Loras claimed the team national title with 55 points, while UW-La Crosse (51 points) was the runner-up and Johns Hopkins and Washington University in St. Louis tied for third with 38 points apiece.
Cassie Kearney led off the day with a phenomenal performance in the 1,500-meter run. She finished as the national runner-up in the event with a time of 4:28.05. The field was extremely competitive, with less than a second separating the top-three runners.
Kearney followed up that race alongside
Nicole Johnson in the 800m just over an hour later. Kearney placed third with a personal-best clocking of 2:07.92, while Johnson was three spots behind in sixth with a personal-record time of 2:09.06.
Cady Barns finished in 16th place in the triple jump with a leap of 11.42m, earning her best mark with her second run down the runway toward the sand.
