The fifth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team (16-5) cruised to a 5-0 victory over North Central (22-6) in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships on Friday. The Panthers advance into Saturday's regional final, taking on host and #11 Carnegie Mellon at noon.
During tournament play, all matches are contested until the one team records the fifth point to secure the victory.
Middlebury got off to a fast start, sweeping all three points in doubles in order with the top pairing of
Amy Delman and
Gena Huang easing to an 8-1 win. At second doubles,
Brinlea La Barge and
Sami Remis posted an 8-4 triumph, while the duo of
Sahana Raman and
Claudia Miller won 8-5 in the third spot for their 11th-straight doubles victory.
The Panthers quickly closed out the win in singles, as Raman won 6-0, 6-0 in the second slot, while Huang clinched the win at #5 with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. Raman's win was her team-leading 25th of the season in singles and Huang extended her personal-winning streak to six-straight matches.
When Middlebury clinched the victory, Miller, Delman and
Amanda Frank were each winning their respective matches.
The Tartans (16-6) topped Hope 5-0 in the opening match of the day.
