The eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team wrapped up the regular-season schedule with a 6-3 victory over #15 Bowdoin Sunday on the Proctor Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Panthers picked up their seventh-consecutive win. Middlebury finishes with a 13-4 record and a 9-1 mark in NESCAC play, while the Polar Bears conclude the regular season at 7-9 and 5-5 against league foes.
The conference tournament will begin on Friday, May 6 with Wesleyan serving as the host. The seedings will be announced by the league office over the next few days.
The Panthers grabbed a 2-1 edge after doubles play on Sunday. The second pair of
Brinlea La Barge and
Sami Remis recorded an 8-4 victory, while the #3 duo of
Sahana Raman and
Claudia Miller was victorious 8-2. The top spot went in favor of the Polar Bears 8-6, sending the match to singles with Middlebury up by one.
The hosts took a 3-1 lead when Remis recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory at #6, before Miller made the score 4-1 behind a straight-set triumph (6-1, 6-3) in the third position. Raman tallied the clinching point, securing a 6-2, 6-3 win in the second spot.
Bowdoin pulled to within two (5-3) with a straight-set victory at #5 and a three-set triumph in the top position.
Amy Delman concluded the scoring with her seventh-straight win in singles play, battling back from a set down for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 triumph for the final 6-3 score.
