A school record in the long jump by
Cady Barns and four event wins highlighted the eighth-ranked Middlebury women's track and field team efforts during the Amherst Spring Fling on Saturday. The non-scoring team event featured participants from Brandeis, Amherst, Williams, Mt. Holyoke, Wheaton (Mass.) and Wesleyan. Middlebury returns to action next weekend when it competes in the two-day Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.
The women shined during the field events, collecting a trio of wins led by Barns. She hit the sand during the long jump with a school-record and winning mark of 5.66m, erasing the program record of 5.56m she set last spring.
Mary Scott Robinson won the shot put with a toss of 11.18m, while
Jaxon Palmer claimed the javelin with a distance of 34.40m.
Macy Daggitt was third in the high jump at 1.52m, while
Zoe Wang matched that finish in the triple jump (10.75m).
The fourth first-place effort came from
Michelle Louie, who won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.28.
The Panthers collected numerous top-three finishes on the track. Runner-up times came from
Emily Bulczynski in the 1,500m (4:45.16) and
Ciara Dale during the 400m hurdles (1:04.83).
Audrey Grimes crossed the line second in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:40.73), while
Tatum Peskin was third in the event (11:50.71). The 4x100m relay team of
Joely Virzi, Louie,
Briana Johnson and Barns was third with a time of 49.59.
