The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five-straight matches, as the Panthers posted a 6-3 NESCAC victory at #18 Amherst on Saturday. Middlebury (8-2, 3-1) has a quick turnaround, heading to Hamilton on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. start with the Continentals.
The Panthers secured two points during doubles action, claiming the top two positions. The second tandem of Aidan Harris and Noah Laber won 8-4, while the top pairing of Stan Morris and David Vilys triumphed 8-6 for a 2-0 lead. The Mammoths (6-5, 3-2) netted their only point at doubles in the third slot.
Morris was the first to finish in singles at the top of the line-up, winning 6-1, 6-4 with his team-leading 17th victory of the season. After Amherst made it 3-3 with triumphs at #4 and #2, the Panthers closed out the match with three-straight points. Zihao Yuan won his eighth-consecutive match (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) in the sixth position, while Laber clinched the match at #3 by the scores of 6-2, 6-1. Zachary Hilty capped the victory for Middlebury in the fifth slot, posting a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
