The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team (9-2, 4-1) completed a NESCAC weekend road sweep, recording a 9-0 victory on Sunday at Hamilton (6-6, 1-5) at the Margaret Scott Bundy Field House. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host #7 Williams at 2:00 p.m.
During doubles play, the #3 Middlebury tandem of
Joe Mairs and
David Vilys started things off with an 8-2 victory, while the second flight of
Neel Epstein and
Zachary Hilty won 8-3. The top pair of
Aidan Harris and
Noah Laber made the score 3-0 for the visitors with an 8-2 triumph.
In singles action, Epstein claimed the team's fourth point at #2 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory, while Hilty clinched the match in the third spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Laber picked up a straight-set victory at #1 by 6-4, 6-2 scores, while Mairs got past his opponent in the fifth slot of the lineup (6-1, 6-4).
The Panthers' eighth and ninth points came from Vilys at #6 (6-0, 6-2) and
Zihao Yuan in the fourth slot (6-4, 6-0) for the final 9-0 decision.
