The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team (10-2, 5-1) tallied its sixth-straight victory on Saturday, posting a 7-2 victory over seventh-ranked Williams (8-2, 5-1) in the Nelson Recreation Center. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they play regionally-ranked foes Skidmore and Trinity in Connecticut.
During doubles play, the #2 Middlebury tandem of
Aidan Harris and
Noah Laber started things off with an 8-4 victory, while the third flight of
Neel Epstein and
Zachary Hilty won 8-4. The top pair of
Stan Morris and
David Vilys made the score 3-0 in favor of the hosts with an 8-6 triumph.
In singles action, Laber claimed the team's fourth point at #3 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Morris tallied the clinching point in the top spot of the lineup in straight sets (7-6 (6), 6-3). The Ephs recorded their first point with a narrow triumph at #4 (7-6 (4), 6-4).
Zihao Yuan increased the Panther lead to 6-1 when he slipped past his opponent in the sixth slot by scores of 7-6 (6), 7-5, while Harris pushed the advantage to 7-1 behind a 6-2, 7-5 win in the second spot.
Williams earned the final point of the match at #5 in a pair of tiebreakers (7-6 (3), 7-6 (6)) for the final 7-2 score.
