The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team (13-2, 7-1) increased its unbeaten streak to nine on Sunday, posting an 8-1 road victory over Connecticut College (5-10, 0-8). The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they entertain Colby beginning at 10:00 a.m.
During doubles play, the #1 Middlebury tandem of
Stan Morris and
David Vilys secured the first point with an 8-2 victory to pick up their eighth-straight triumph, while the third flight of
Neel Epstein and
Zachary Hilty won by an identical score. The second pair of
Noah Laber and
Aidan Harris made the score 3-0 in favor of the visitors with an 8-4 triumph.
In singles play, the Panthers switched around their typical lineup. Vilys claimed the team's fourth point at #5 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory, while
Maximus Kim tallied the clinching point in the sixth spot in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). Epstein increased the Panther lead to 6-0 when he was triumphant in the top slot by scores of 6-3, 6-3, while
Zihao Yuan claimed his 13th-straight victory with a win at #3 (6-3, 6-1).
Joe Mairs pushed the Middlebury advantage to 8-0 behind a 6-3, 7-5 win in the fourth spot.
The Camels earned the final point of the match at #2 by tallies of 7-6 (3), 6-1 for the final 8-1 score.
