The fourth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team (14-2, 8-1) extended its win streak to 10-consecutive victories on Saturday, thumping #24 Colby 8-1. The Panthers conclude the regular-season on Sunday, hosting ninth-ranked Bowdoin at 10:00 a.m., while the Mules (8-7, 4-5) travel to Williams.
Colby snagged the first point of the patch at #2 doubles with an 8-5 victory. Middlebury responded with wins at #1 and #3 to take a 2-1 edge. The tandem of
Stan Morris and
David Vilys won a tight contest in the top spot (8-7(5)), tallying their ninth-straight win as they remain unbeaten (8-0) in NESCAC play.
Zachary Hilty and
Neel Epstein triumphed 8-4 in the third position to put the Panthers on top with their eighth-consecutive win as a doubles pair.
Middlebury swept singles action, highlighted by
Zihao Yuan's 14th-straight win. He cruised 6-0, 6-3 in the sixth spot to remain undefeated in conference play (8-0). Morris battled for his point at the top of the ladder, but hung in to extend his winning streak to seven-straight triumphs. Other wins came from Laber, Harris, Hilty and Epstein.
