The #14 Middlebury women's outdoor track and field team swept its own tri-meet on Saturday at Dragone Field, scoring 180 points, followed by Plattsburgh State (83) and Union (69). This was the final tune-up for Middlebury before competing at the NESCAC Championships on April 30.
Prior to the start of the competition, the Panthers recognized its 14 seniors for their hard work and dedication. This group was part of the 2019 squad that finished as the NESCAC runner-up. Seniors include Cady Barns, Emily Bulczynski, Dana Glackin, Leah Granger, Emma Hills, Nicole Johnson, Cassie Kearney, Grace Kirkpatrick, Julia Munz, Katelyn Pease, Greta Sirek, Jacqueline Topping, Audra Wagner-Carlberg and Anna Wood.
The quartet of Joely Virzi, Michelle Louie, Eva Kaiden and Cady Barns broke its own school record in the 4x100-meter relay in a winning time of 48.63 seconds. That topped the mark of 48.70 earlier in the spring. Middlebury also won the 4x400 relay with the team of Ashley Raynor, Emma Hills, Anna Krouse and Addie Morrison combining for a time of 4:14.11.
Barns added two first-place efforts in individual events, taking first in the 100m (12.52) and the triple jump (37'8"). Louie crossed the finish line first in the 200m in 25.29 seconds, while Johnson won the 400m with a clocking of 58.33. Meaghan McEnroe (16.96) took top honors in the 100 hurdles and Ciara Dale (1:04.96) placed first in the 400 hurdles.
Kearney won the longest race of the day, completing the 5,000m in 16:54.89
The Panthers won three throwing events led by Mary Scott Robinson in the shot put (37'7.75"), followed by Madeline Sauders (113'6") in the discus and Jaxon Palmer (115'8") in the javelin.
Peyton Belsher cleared 4'11.75" to place first in the high jump and Leah Granger soared over the bar at 10'4" to win the pole vault.
