The eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team (9-4, 5-1) claimed five of the six points during singles play, turning a one-point lead after doubles into a 7-2 win over #17 Williams (3-8, 2-4) on Saturday. The match was contested indoors in the Nelson Recreation Center. The Panthers return to action on Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. conference match at Trinity.
The Middlebury pair of
Claudia Miller and
Sahana Raman tallied the first point at #3 doubles, earning an 8-4 triumph.
Brinlea La Barge and
Sami Remis extended the Panther advantage with an 8-2 win in the second slot. The Ephs got on the board with an 8-5 victory in the top spot, cutting the deficit to 2-1 headed to singles.
Miller continued her winning ways for the Panthers, earning her fifth-straight victory with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at #3, while Remis gave the hosts a 4-1 advantage behind a 6-4, 6-1 decision at the bottom of the lineup. Delman posted the clinching point during her match at #4, recording a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win.
Raman picked up her 18th victory this season, surrendering just one game in the second position during a straight-set win (6-1, 6-0). Williams pulled to within four (6-2), earning a three-set narrow victory at #1. Amin earned her fifth-consecutive triumph in singles play, defeating her opponent 7-5, 6-2 in the fifth slot for the final 7-2 decision.
