Middlebury Breezes By Plattsburgh State 65-30

The Middlebury women's basketball team breezed by Plattsburgh State 65-30 in Pepin Gymnasium on Wednesday. The game was the first of three for the Panthers this week, as they travel to Skidmore on Friday before returning home on Sunday to host Union.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back, slowly increasing its advantage to double digits (18-8) at the end of the opening quarter. Gabby Stuart tallied eight points during the initial stanza.
  • The Panthers maintained a 10-point advantage in the early going of the second frame. Leading 22-12, Middlebury went on a 13-4 run to close out the half.
  • Alexa Mustafaj capped the span with a pair of charity tosses and a layup to make it 35-16 at the break.
  • Mustafaj tallied nine of the opening 10 points of the third quarter, increasing the Panther lead to 44-17 with 5:38 remaining.
  • The Cardinals responded with back-to-back baskets, but Middlebury recorded six of the next nine points to take a decisive 50-24 advantage heading into the final frame.
  • The Panthers rattled off six-unanswered points to start the quarter, and eased to the 60-35 victory. 
NOTES
  • Today's victory marked the sixth-straight win over Plattsburgh State, with Middlebury owning an 18-10 record. 
  • For the 20th time in her career, Mustafaj tallied over 20 points finishing with 22. 
  • Kale Tornwini made her six minutes off the bench in the fourth quarter count, leading all players with a pair of blocks. She also tallied three points and grabbed two boards during the span. 
  • Mustafaj, Stuart and Augusta Dixon each recorded a trio of steals during the contest.
