Men’s Hockey Battles Back To Edge Connecticut College 3-2

The Middlebury men's hockey team battled back from a first-period deficit, scoring three of the game's final four goals to earn a 3-2 victory at Connecticut College.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Camels had a great scoring chance from the left side when Seth Stadheim wristed a shot that Panther goalie Jake Horoho saved with his blocker at the 5:04 mark.
  • Near the midway point of the period, Sean Detloff took a shot that Horoho saved and the shot trickled behind Horoho before a Panther defender cleared it away to keep the game scoreless.
  • Detloff gave the Camels a 1-0 edge at the 16:08 mark, blasting a wrister from the left point that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.
  • The Panthers tied the contest just 45 seconds into the second period. After a scrum in front of the crease, Paddy Bogart poked the loose puck into the goal to make it 1-1.
  • Middlebury quickly gained a 2-1 lead 49 seconds later, taking advantage of a three-on-one rush from its defensive zone. Matt Myers lifted a shot from the right side over the shoulder of Camel goalie Cam Fernandez.
  • The Camels looked to score the equalizer 11:26 into the frame when Rocco Testa-Basi poked at a loose puck with Horoho down on the ice, but Horoho mustered a save with his right pad to deny the chance.
  • During a Middlebury powerplay and less than two minutes showing on the clock, the visitors had a trio of chances to increase the advantage, but Fernandez saved each bid to keep the score 2-1.
  • The Camels tied the score 2:39 into the period when Reid Shafer ripped a shot from the left circle that tucked inside the right post.
  • The Panthers took a 3-2 lead at 9:51 when Andrej Hromic skated in from the left side, lifting a backhanded shot just under the bar.
  • Connecticut College looked to score the tying goal with 10:55 elapsed, but Horoho denied a shot just outside the crease from John Russo.
  • The Camels pulled Fernandez with 1:24 left in favor of an extra skater, but the Panther defense held up to secure the 3-2 victory.
NOTES
  • Myers' goal was the first of his career in a Panther uniform.
  • Seven different Panthers tallied a point during the victory.
  • Friday's game was the 51st meeting between the programs, with Middlebury owning a 32-14-5 advantage.
