Women’s Basketball Downs Hornets 79-27

The Middlebury women's basketball team never trailed in Tuesday night's game, easing to a 79-27 victory over Northern Vermont-Lyndon.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • With the score level at 4-4 at the 6:12 mark, Alexa Mustafaj scored six-unanswered points over a 50-second span, converting on three layups to give Middlebury a 10-4 advantage.
  • The Panthers extended their lead to 19-9 with 35 seconds remaining, following a Gianna Palli layup and free throw.
  • Middlebury dominated the second stanza, outscoring the Hornets 21-4. Mustafaj and Augusta Dixon combined for 15 of the team's points in the quarter, taking a decisive 40-13 advantage at the break.
  • The Panthers opened the second half with a 9-1 run, capped by a layup from Gabby Stuart at the 5:16 mark for the 49-14 lead.
  • Kale Tornwini beat the buzzer with a long three pointer to send the Panthers into the fourth quarter with a 40-point lead (57-17).
  • Middlebury didn't let up in the final quarter, easing to the 79-27 victory.
NOTES
  • First-years Tornwini (7), Amanda Hill (8) and Brooke Collins (8) each recorded a career-high total in points during the victory.
  • This was the seventh meeting between the two squads, with Middlebury owning a 7-0 mark in the series.
  • The Panthers held the Hornets to just four points in the second quarter.
