Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Outlasts Camels, Extends Winning Streak to Four

The Middlebury men's soccer team defeated Connecticut College by a score of 1-0 on Sunday. Eujin Chae scored the game's lone goal, as the Panthers continued their impressive form, and won their fourth consecutive match.

 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers took the lead after just four minutes of action. After receiving a pass on the left side, Chae whipped in a dangerous ball that went over everyone and nestled into the top right corner of the net, giving Middlebury the 1-0 edge.
  • Connecticut College pushed for an equalizer throughout the first half and almost found one with 33:50 remaining. Jorge Mendo had an open shot inside the box that was blocked by Kenan Ulku-Steiner. The rebound fell kindly to Augie Djerdjaj who fired a shot just wide of the right post.
  • Middlebury almost took a 2-0 lead at the 25:40 mark. After dribbling through a few defenders, Jordan Saint-Louis blasted a left-footed strike from 25 yards away. The shot looked destined for the top left corner, but Camels goalkeeper Peter Silvester denied him with a fantastic diving save.
  • At the 43:15 mark, a red card was issued to Connecticut College, and the team would be reduced to 10 players for the remaining 47:45.
  • The Camels continued to pile on the pressure in the second half. In the 55th minute, Djerdjaj created space and drove a low shot on goal from the right side of the box, but Ryan Grady was alert to it and made a strong save to keep Connecticut College at bay.
  • With just over 13 minutes remaining, the Camels looked to have leveled the score. Following a free kick, the ball bounced dangerously in the box, and found its way to Jack Kelesoglu, whose initial effort slipped past Grady. However, Luke Madden was on the goal line to clear the ball to safety.
  • The game began to open up from that point, with both teams searching for a goal. Middlebury's Andrew Juarez played Gavin Randolph through on goal, but his effort whistled inches wide of the right post.
  • Less than two minutes later, Randolph turned provider, as he played Alem Hadzic in behind the defense. Hadzic was able to dribble past the keeper, but his shot rolled just wide of the empty net.
  • With four minutes remaining, Noah Hannam combined beautifully with Randolph, but Randolph's one-on-one effort was thwarted by a fine stop from Silvester as the Panthers hung on for the 1-0 victory.
NOTES
  • Grady recorded his 25 career shutout, moving him into sole possession of second place in the Middlebury's record books.
  • The Panthers have allowed just one goal in their last 360 minutes played.
