Men’s Soccer Uses Second Half Surge to Defeat Colby

The Middlebury men's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to defeat Colby by a score of 3-1. The Panthers are 4-0-1 over their last five matches, including wins in three-straight contests.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury was presented with the first good chance of the game after only 2:19, as Jordan Saint-Louis had a good look at goal, but his left-footed strike was denied by Colby goalkeeper Brendan McCarthy. 
  • The Panthers had two scoring opportunities in quick succession. In the 24th minute, Saint-Louis had an effort that whistled just wide of the post. Just over a minute later, Shane Farrell fired a shot toward the bottom-left corner, but McCarthy was equal to it. 
  • Middlebury continued to apply the pressure, as both Michael McFarlane and Andrew Juarez had scoring chances denied by Colby's goalkeeper in the 37th minute.
  • Middlebury opened the scoring just 56 seconds into the second half. Farrell fought off pressure from Graham Pugh and fired a shot past McCarthy into the right corner for a 1-0 lead. 
  • Gavin Randolph almost made it 2-0 with 42 minutes remaining. After controlling the ball in the box, Randolph struck a shot that was headed toward the left corner, but McCarthy made a fine save to thwart him. 
  • The Panthers doubled their advantage at the 55:30 mark. Alem Hadzic slipped a pass through to Liam Sloan, who blasted a strike into the top-right corner of the net from just inside the 18. 
  • Middlebury scored its third goal of the game at the 59:34 mark. Saint-Louis dribbled past multiple Mule defenders and was fouled in the box. Saint-Louis made no mistake from the penalty spot, and calmly slotted the ball into the net.  
  • Colby scored a late goal with 82:52 showing on the second-half clock. Mario Simones received a pass from Sam Wilson, firing a low drive from the left side that snuck past Ryan Grady and inside the post.
 
NOTES
  • The team has outscored its opponents 12-3 during the five-game unbeaten stretch.
  • With his goal today, Saint-Louis leads the team with four goals scored this season.
