#7 Middlebury Earns Draw With WPI

The seventh-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Scoring chances were hard to come by in the opening half, with each team producing limited quality opportunities.
  • At the 21:14 mark of the stanza, the Engineers had a bid to take the lead, but Luke Savoie's left-footed shot from 30 yards out hit the crossbar and caromed over the top ofthe goal.
  • Jordan Saint-Louis looked to get the Panthers on the board at 28:02, hitting a knuckling shot that WPI goalie Roe Hendrick saved with his body going to the ground to keep the match scoreless.
  • In the 31st minute, a volley on the right side by WPI's Mike Biando was saved by Panther goalie Ryan Grady shuffling to his left to keep the match deadlocked heading into intermission.
  • After the halftime break, Middlebury turned up the pressure, outshooting the Engineers 13-3 in the second half.
  • Saint-Louis took a throw-in at the 56:57 mark, turned and rifled a shot from just outside the box that Hendrick made a diving save on his right post.
  • Kyle Nilsson produced a quality chance nearly eight minutes later, but his right-footed blast from 20 yards away was saved by Hendrick diving to his right.
  • At the 84:01 mark, Andrew Juarez laced a shot from 40 yards out that Hendricks had to punch over the crossbar. On the ensuing corner kick, Madden volleyed a shot just wide right of the Engineer net.
  • WPI had its best chance of the second stanza with less than four minutes remaining, as Filippo Marcantoni worked in behind the Panther defense. Marcantoni's left-footed attempt was denied by Grady using his legs to preserve the 0-0 draw.
NOTES
  • Grady continues to add to his program-leading shutout total for Middlebury, making a pair of key saves to give him 28 clean sheets.
  • The Panthers are unbeaten over their last nine matches, posting a 7-0-2 record.
