Middlebury Blanks Colby 3-0 On Senior Night

The Middlebury volleyball team cruised past Colby 3-0 on Senior Night, opening its NESCAC weekend at home. The victory marked the eighth sweep of the season for the Panthers. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury went on a 5-2 run to open the match, capped by a service ace from Britt Lange.
  • The Mules battled back, slicing the deficit to one (6-5) with a kill from Emma Davis. 
  • Leading 9-8, the Panthers went on an 8-2 run. Laney Sullivan sparked the span with a kill, before Manya Kula came off the bench and recorded a service ace. Lucy Ambach closed out the burst with a pair of kills sandwiched around a kill by Sullivan for the 14-9 advantage.
  • The Panthers didn't let up, rattling off five of the next seven points, increasing the lead to 19-11. 
  • Middlebury tallied six unanswered points behind powerful serving from Katie Kraczkowsky for the 25-12 victory.
  • The second frame was much like the first, with the Panthers jumping out to a 5-2 edge.
  • Leading 13-9, Middlebury had a four-point spurt capped by a service ace from Lange for the 17-9 advantage.
  • Colby responded with a 4-0 burst of its own, whittling the lead down to four (17-13). 
  • The Panthers answered with 12 of the next 16 points to pick up the 25-17 triumph.
  • The third set was a back-and-forth affair, with the score deadlocked nine different times.
  • Tied at 16-16, Middlebury tallied four of the next five points, taking a 20-17 edge on a service ace by Gabbie O'Toole
  • Back-to-back kills by Natalie Bumpus brought the Mules within one (21-20), but that was as close as they would get.
  • The Panthers scored four of the final five points to earn the 25-21 win and secure the three-set sweep.  
NOTES
  • Prior to the start of the match, the Panthers honored seniors Ambach, Kula and Sullivan. 
  • Kelly Ferrero tied her three-set career-best with 22 digs.
  • O'Toole recorded 30 assists during the win, continuing her streak of 20 or more in every match she has played in.
  • The victory was the 15th-straight against Colby.
