Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#1 Field Hockey Hangs On To Triumph 6-3 Over Skidmore

The top-ranked Middlebury field hockey team outlasted a tough Skidmore squad to pick up its 51st-consecutive victory at home, 6-3. The Thoroughbreds rallied from a 3-0 deficit, leveling the game at 3-3, but the Panthers responded with three-unanswered goals to earn the victory.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Middlebury got off to a quick start, as Sadie LeStage's shot from the right side of the circle was saved by Skidmore goalie Victoria Bodnar with her pad.
  • Just under five minutes later, the Panthers tallied the first goal of the contest. Amy Griffin blasted a shot that was saved, and she poked the rebound past Bodnar into the bottom-left corner for a 1-0 lead.
  • Middlebury doubled its advantage with 7:43 elapsed, as Caroline Segal burst through the defense, dribbling past multiple defenders, guiding a shot past Bodnar inside the post.
  • The Panthers added their third goal (3-0) with 46 seconds left in the first quarter. LeStage inserted a penalty corner to Griffin who was the stopper, before Grace Murphy blasted into the back of the cage.
  • The Thoroughbreds did not go quietly, as five minutes into the second stanza, Skidmore cut the deficit to 3-1. Kayla Hassett controlled a pass and found Brooke Golden sent a shot into the lower-left corner as part of a penalty corner.
  • The Thoroughbreds inched closer at the 24:45 mark. CC Wetter was on the end of a Arianna Spiezio pass, and tapped it home into the right side of the cage, making it a 3-2 contest.
  • Skidmore continued that momentum, scoring the equalizer (3-3) just 2:14 into the third quarter when Tobi Dolan tipped in a pass from Carrie Hughes.
  • Middlebury responded at the 41:05 mark when Audrey Lazar redirected a pass on the right side from Griffin for a 4-3 lead.
  • The Panthers maintained their offensive pressure, as Katie George controlled a blocked shot and fired it into the left corner of the cage at the 53:13 mark. Lazar tacked on another goal under a minute later to ensure a 6-3 victory.
