Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#1 Women’s Hockey Edges #10 Endicott In Overtime

Raia Schluter scored with 1:53 remaining in overtime to lift the top-ranked Middlebury women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over #10 Endicott (9-3-1) on Saturday. With the win, the Panthers (9-0-0) extend their win streak to nine and remain one of just three Division III teams with an unbeaten record. Middlebury is back in action next weekend when it hosts Wesleyan for a two-game stint beginning on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Panthers dominated the first period, limiting the Gulls to just one shot in the first 12:43. Middlebury's best chance to score came with 6:07 remaining when Molly MacQueen wristed a shot from the high slot, but Endicott netminder Michaela O'Brien just got a pad on the puck to thwart the chance.

Middlebury came out of the intermission strong, firing seven shots in the first 1:17 of play, but a strong Gulls' defense denied all opportunities.

Endicott broke the scoreless draw just 41 seconds into the third period. After a scramble in front of the net, Courtney Sullivan collected the puck before tucking it inside the right pipe for the 1-0 edge. Middlebury found the equalizer with an extra attacker with 1:11 remaining in regulation. Eva Hendrikson sent a pass from the top of the right faceoff circle that Claudia Vira one-timed from the left point to make it 1-1 and force overtime.

During the extra stanza of three-on-three play, the Gulls had a great chance to tally a goal with 2:57 showing on the clock. Quin Healy skated one-on-one with Middlebury goaltender Sophia Merageas, but her shot from close range was denied by Merageas. The Panthers tallied the game-winner just 10 seconds later when Schluter faked to her left before lifting the puck over O'Brien's left shoulder for the 2-1 final.

Merageas made 14 saves in goal for Middlebury, while O'Brien made an impressive 40 stops for Endicott. The Panthers held a commanding 42-15 advantage in shots.
