Box Score The Middlebury men's basketball team extended its win streak to 12 with a 76-68 victory at Plymouth State (7-6) on Tuesday evening. The Panthers (14-2) travel to #20 Williams on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with the teams tied three times before either could take a sizable lead. Knotted at 14 points apiece with 11:47 left on the clock, Plymouth State went on a 10-4 run to take a 24-18 advantage. Middlebury cut the deficit to one with a three-pointer from
Sam Stevens at the 7:01 mark. The hosts tallied back-to-back treys to increase the lead to 30-23 with 5:50 remaining in the half. Trailing 35-28, Middlebury tallied the final four points of the stanza to make it 35-32 heading into the break.
Middlebury came out strong in the second half, rattling off 10 of the first 14 points.
Noah Osher sank two shots from beyond the arc during the span, helping the visitors to a 42-39 lead with 16:25 left on the clock. Plymouth State responded with a 5-0 spurt over the ensuing 1:25 to take a 44-42 edge. The visitors answered with a 13-4 run, making it 55-48 with just over 10 minutes to go in the game. The span was sparked by a three from Stevens, with Osher accounting for eight points, including a pair of threes. Middlebury slowly increased its lead, taking a double-digit advantage (69-58) after a pair of charity tosses from
David Brennan with 3:56 remaining. Plymouth State responded with a 6-0 burst, cutting the deficit to five (69-64) with 2:18 to go. That was as close as the hosts would get as Middlebury went five-for-six at the stripe for the 76-68 final.
Osher led all players with a career-high 29 points shooting 70.6% from the floor.
Alex Sobel recorded his 11th double-double of the season with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while also blocking three shots during the win. Stevens chipped in with 13 points, while
Jaden Bobbett pulled down seven boards.
Dante Rivera paced Plymouth State with 17 points and seven rebounds. Manny Alisandro tallied 13 points, while Kevin Henry chipped in with 10.
