Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Panthers Kick Off Season With 6-0 Triumph Over Mount St. Mary

The Middlebury men's soccer team (1-0) scored three times in a seven-minute span in the first half, propelling the Panthers to a 6-0 season-opening victory at Mount Saint Mary (0-2) on Tuesday. Middlebury begins NESCAC play on Saturday, hosting Wesleyan at noon on South Street Field.

The Panthers pressed early with a pair of quality chances in the opening 10 minutes. Shane Farrell fired a shot from the top left corner of the penalty area that sailed high, while 65 seconds later Jordan Saint-Louis laced a shot from just inside the box that went over the net.

Middlebury opened the scoring with 11:55 remaining in the half. Kenan Ulku-Steiner gave Nathan Pilson an entry pass in the Mt. St. Mary box, before the Panther side-stepped a pair of defenders and sent a low shot into the bottom-right corner of the goal. Saint-Louis tucked a penalty kick inside the left post with 7:22 showing on the clock, while Jonah Roberts collected a free ball in the penalty area and beat keeper Zach Decker from 10-yards out for a 3-0 cushion at the break.

The visitors had a strong start to the second frame, netting a pair of goals 23 seconds apart in the initial four minutes. Brendan Barry drove home a crossing pass from Liam Sloan with 2:55 expired, while Saint-Louis controlled a free ball, beat a defender and ripped in his second of the game from the top of the restraining area for a 5-0 lead.

Charles Sakouvogui closed out the scoring with 1:52 remaining, using his left foot to direct a shot into the far corner of the net from the penalty stripe for the 6-0 final.

Middlebury was efficient with its shots, scoring six times on 10 attempts on goal, while the Saints only had one shot on the mark. Ryan Grady played 75:21 and Marco Kaper (one save) played 14:39 to share the shutout, while Decker finished with four stops.
