Volleyball Cruises Past Colby-Sawyer

Middlebury improved on its program-best start, moving to 6-0 overall with a 3-0 victory at Colby-Sawyer (3-5) on Wednesday night. The Panthers open NESCAC play on Friday evening when they host Colby at 8:00 p.m. in Pepin Gym.

Middlebury jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first set, cruising to the 25-16 win. Reigning NESCAC player of the week Maggie Wise recorded five of her match-high nine kills in the first set.

The Panthers recorded 13 of the first 16 points in the second set and were not challenged, going up 2-0 with a 25-12 victory.

In the third and final set, Middlebury again ran out to a 13-3 advantage. Colby-Sawyer cut the lead to 14-9, but the Panthers responded with three-straight points en route to the 25-18 win.

Corley Doyle finished with six kills and hit .455, while Laney Sullivan also added six kills. Kelly Ferrero paced the team with 13 digs, followed by Wise with eight and Sullivan, who earned six. Gabbie O'Toole dished out 28 assists, marking the fifth time in as many matches she has accomplished the feat.

Shaelyn Thornton led the hosts with seven kills, while Olivia Werner added six. Anna Allen earned 20 assists, while Audra Fontes dug out eight balls.
