The Middlebury women's tennis team (2-2, 2-1) edged Amherst 5-4 in a NESCAC West match at home on Saturday. The Panthers are back in action on Sunday when they host Skidmore at noon, while Mammoths (2-2, 2-2) are idle next weekend.
Middlebury's
Kavina Amin and
Gena Huang recorded an 8-5 victory in the third spot against Amin's twin sister, Kaya, and her partner Anya Ramras. The Mammoths won 8-6 at #1 and #2 as they led 2-1 after doubles play.
Amin got out to a quick start in singles play in the fifth spot, recording a 6-1 victory in the first set, before an Amherst default knotted the score 2-2. The Mammoths took a 3-2 edge after a victory at #1 (6-3, 6-2), but Middlebury's
Emily Bian evened the match at 3-3 with a decisive win (6-2, 6-1) in the third slot. Panther Huang was victorious at #2 (6-3, 6-4), making it 4-3, before
Sami Remis clinched the match in the fourth spot. After dropping the first set 6-4, Remis battled back to win two-straight (6-3, 10-5), securing the victory for Middlebury. Amherst recorded the final point in a tight three-set win at #6.
