The Middlebury women's tennis team (1-2, 1-1) fell 7-2 to Tufts (4-0, 2-0) on Sunday. The Panthers return to the court on Saturday when they host Amherst at 1:00 p.m., while the Jumbos travel to Bates on the same day for a 2:00 p.m. start.
Tufts earned the first two points of doubles play in the third and first spots by scores of 8-1 and 8-4, respectively. The match at #2 came down to the wire, but the Jumbos duo edged Middlebury tandem
Sami Remis and
Amy Delman with a narrow 8-7 (4) victory.
Tufts clinched the match with the first pair of points in singles play, winning in the third spot (6-4, 6-3) and at #1 (3-6, 6-4, 10-1).
Gena Huang won decisively (6-3, 6-3) in the second slot to pick up a point for the Panthers, and
Caitlin Neal closed out the match with a 7-6(1), 6-0 victory at #6 for the Panthers, making it a 7-2 final.
