The Middlebury men's basketball team (8-2) extended its win streak to six with an 82-61 victory at Plattsburgh State (1-8) on Wednesday evening. The Panthers have a quick turnaround, hosting Skidmore on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Trailing 16-12 at th 13:50 mark, Middlebury tallied 10 unanswered points over the ensuing 2:15 to take a 22-16 advantage. The Cardinals battled back, cutting the deficit to four (28-24) on a layup from Cameron Ness. The Panthers responded with a 19-4 run, capped on a layup from
Sam Stevens to make it 47-28 with 2:17 to go in the opening stanza. Plattsburgh tallied the final six points of the half to make it 47-34.
Out of the break, the Cardinals continued to slowly chip away at the deficit, cutting the lead to just four (60-56) on a layup from Kevin Taub at the midpoint of the frame. The Panthers answered with the deciding 12-0 run with
Lamine Cisse leading the way. He went 5-5 at the charity stripe to go along with a layup to account for seven points during the span. Middlebury never trailed en route to the 82-61 victory.
Alex Sobel led all players with 22 points and recorded his seventh double-double of the season with a game-high 15 rebounds. He tallied five blocks during the victory, moving into seventh on Middlebury's all-time list with 110 in his career. Stevens had 15 points and grabbed seven boards, while
Noah Osher chipped in with 13 points.
David Brennan pulled down nine rebounds.
The Cardinals were paced by Taub with 11 points, while three other players tallied 10 points apiece. Ness recorded seven rebounds for Plattsburgh State.
