Men’s Soccer And Trinity Finish In 0-0 Tie

The Middlebury men's soccer team and Trinity (3-10-1, 0-8-1) finished in a scoreless tie on Saturday in Hartford, Connecticut in a game that had more chances than the score indicated. The Panthers (9-3-2, 4-3-2) cap the regular season on Tuesday, heading to Williams for a 3:00 p.m. start.

The Bantams had a good chance to open the scoring in the sixth minute, as Michael Traynor broke free and got a shot off from the top of the box. Panther goalie Ryan Grady collected the bid to keep the contest scoreless.

Brandon Reid had Middlebury's first good scoring opportunity, creating shooting space on the left side in the penalty area. He laced a shot that sailed high with 32 minutes showing on the clock. Reid had another chance later in the half, this time running up the right side. The Panther fired a rising shot from close range, but Bantam goalie Bernardo Simoes knocked it down.

In the second stanza, Jordan Saint-Louis tested Simoes in the first 12 minutes with a long shot from outside the penalty area that the Bantam keeper had to punch over the net. Trinity countered minutes later with a great opportunity, as Pierce O'Malley hit the crossbar with his attempt from 20 yards.

Panthers had another golden chance midway through the half when Noah Hannam slid a pass from the left side to Reid in the penalty area, but his bid went over the net. Middlebury forced Simoes to make two more saves in the 79th minute on shots by Saint-Louis and Jonah Roberts.

In the initial 10-minute overtime, Traynor had the best scoring chance with three minutes expired, but his shot from in close on the right wing hit the post.

In the second extra session, Trinity's Matthew Moran saw his header off a long free kick go high, while Grady made two late saves to finish off his eighth shutout of the season.

Grady made five saves, while Simoes had six stops for the Bantams. Middlebury held an 18-10 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
