Connecticut College netted a goal in each half, as the Middlebury women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 NESCAC decision on Saturday. The Panthers (6-3, 1-3) return home on Sunday, for a 2:00 p.m. conference matchup against 21st-ranked Amherst.
The Camels (4-1-1, 3-1-1) opened the scoring with 15:28 expired, as Mya Johnson's long shot from 35 yards got past Panther keeper
Sydney Poppinga. The goal came just after Middlebury had directed three shots at the Conn. College net.
That score carried into the second half when the hosts doubled their lead. Seconds after the opening-kickoff, Johnson carried the ball down the middle of the field and rifled a shot that went into the top-left corner for a 2-0 advantage.
Middlebury had a quality chance to get on the scoreboard in the 68th minute on a shot by
Eliza Van Voorhis. She ripped a shot from just outside the penalty area, but Camel goalie Sarah Hall dove to her left to smother the opportunity.
Poppinga finished with three saves, while Hall made 12 stops as the Panthers held a 20-9 advantage in shots. Middlebury took all six corner kicks on the afternoon.
