Men's Swimming and Diving

Swimming & Diving Hosts Middlebury Invitational

The Panther swimming and diving teams hosted the Middlebury Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet featured no team scoring, as the Panthers entertained the University of Vermont, St. Michael's and Williams over the two-day span. Both Panther teams are idle until the 2020 NESCAC Championships. The women host the four-day event February 13th-16th, while the men's competition begins on February 20th and will take place at Williams.   

On the men's side, the Panthers had one first-place finish, five individuals place second and five relays earn runner-up honors.

Corey Jalbert won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.58. Aidan McKenrick earned a pair of individual second-place finishes, touching the wall in 47.70 in the 100-yard free and 53.16 in the 100-yard butterfly. Nick Handali placed second in the 200-yard fly (2:06.70), while Sam deWolf earned runner-up honors in the 50-yard free with a time of 22.15. Nick Nonnenmacher rounded out the individual second-place finishes, finishing with a time of 55.08 in the 100-yard backstroke.

The 200-yard free relay (Keegan Pando, Will Pannos, Isaac Esposito and Nick Smith) finished in second with a time of 1:28.14. The 400-yard (Jalbert, Jake Gaughan, Bryan Chang and McKenrick) and 800-yard free (Zack Einhorn, Alec Wilson, Chris Weber, McKenrick) relays also earned runner up honors, clocking in at 3:10.86 and 7:12.09, respectively.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Panther squad comprised of Isaac Esposito, Chang, Pannos and Jalbert finished with a time of 1:35.92 to earn second place. The 400-yard medley relay (Ben Merz, Liam O'Brien, Cody Kim and Weber) rounded out the runner-up finishes, touching the wall in 3:37.20.

The women's team had six individual winners and two relay victories during the meet. Audrey Kelly won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.28, while Frances VanderMeer touched the wall in 1:00.11 to claim the 100-yard backstroke. Audrey Hsi was first in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:08.30, while Julianna Haensly was victorious in the 100-yard free with a time of 54.49. Rounding out the individual first-place finishes was Hannah Wander in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.33) and Haley Hutchinson in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.12).

The 400-yard medley relay comprised of Haensly, Hutchinson, Lily Siemasko and VanderMeer took the top-spot with a time of 3:55.64. In the 200-yard medley relay (VanderMeer, Hutchinson, Siemasko and Kelly) team touched the wall in 1:47.64 to claim first-place.

Middlebury took home runner-up honors in the 200 (1:39.84), 400 (3:36.47) and 800-yard (7:55.15) free relays.  Katie Cantrell and Hutchinson each earned a pair of second-place finishes. Cantrell placed second in the 200-yard free (1:58.42) and the 500-yard free (5:11.00), while Hutchinson earned runner-up honors in the 100-yard butterfly (59.22) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.12).
