The Middlebury men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the second semester at Colby on Saturday. The Panthers garnered numerous first-place performances, as the women posted a 168-132 triumph and the men dropped a 165-118 decision. Both teams are right back in the pool, competing at Bates on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

On the men's side, the Middlebury quartet comprised of Corey Jalbert, Bryan Chang, Will Pannos and Jake Gaughan combined for a winning time of 1:27.80 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Cody Kim took top honors in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 28.26 seconds, while Ethan Ding won the 100-yard individual medley in 57.20.

On the diving boards, Jason Rickenbacher was a double winner, taking first on both the one-meter (184.85) and three-meter (182.55) boards.

For the women, Frances VanderMeer had a big meet earning two individual wins and two more in relays. She won the 50-yard backstroke with a pool-record time of 27.30 seconds, while touching the wall first in the 100 freestyle in 54.60. In the first race of the day, she was part of the 200-yard medley relay with Haley Hutchinson, Maddie McKean and Lily Siemaski that boasted a top time of 1:51.61. The Panthers closed out the day with the top finish in the 200 free relay, as the quartet of VanderMeer, McKean, Audrey His and Erin Kelly had a time of 1:40.18.

Hutchinson added a pair of individual wins, claiming the top spot in the 100 back in 1:09.02 and the 100-yard individual medley in 1:01.74. McKean won the 50 butterfly in 27.12 seconds, while Hannah Wander was first in the 50 breaststroke in 32.42. Courtney Gantt added to the strong showing by the Panthers, winning the 50 free (25.28).
