No. 2 Panther Men Split Sunday Matches

The second-ranked Panther men's tennis team split a pair of matches at home on Sunday, picking up a 7-2 NESCAC triumph over Connecticut College, before falling 6-3 to third-ranked Emory. The matches took place on the Proctor Tennis Courts. The Panthers (9-5, 2-1) return to action on Saturday when they entertain 17th-ranked Tufts beginning at 12:00 p.m.

In the match against Connecticut College (5-6, 0-4), the doubles tandem of Aleksandr Samets and Cole Sutton started things off notching the team's first point with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 over Johnny Cissel and Henry DeCoster. The No. 1 flight of Peter Martin and Alex Vanezis won 8-4 over Julien Tien and SangJin Song for a 2-0 Middlebury lead. The Camels cut the lead in half when the No. 2 duo posted an 8-7 (2) triumph.

In singles action, Weston Brach claimed the team's third point at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over DeCoster, while Zach Hilty made it 4-1 via a 6-0, 6-2 win one spot below. Sutton clinched the match at the sixth spot with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Walter Komishane. Vanezis dropped just four games for a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Garcia Rincon in the top spot, while Samets made the score 7-1 via a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sing at No. 2.

The Camels recorded a three-set win at No. 3 for the final 7-2 score.

Later in the day against Emory (12-2), the Eagles swept the doubles matches by scores of 8-3 at No. 2, 8-6 in the top flight and 8-7 (5) at No. 3.

During singles action, the visitors grabbed a 4-0 advantage with a straight-set win at No. 6. The Panthers put together back-to-back wins in the top-two flights to move to within 4-2. Noah Farrell eased past Hayden Cassone at No. 2 by scores of 6-1, 6-1, while Lubomir Cuba was a 6-1, 6-2 winner in the top spot over Jonathan Jemison.

Emory clinched the match with a win in the fourth position, grabbing a 5-2 advantage. The teams split the last two matches on the courts, as Andre Xiao won 6-3, 6-2 against Adrien Bouchet at No. 3, while the Eagles earned a three-set win at No. 5 for the final 6-3 tally.
